Often in our online group images will appear next to each other- despite the random order, or wildly variant date they're invited in- that are beautifully congruous, or perversely consonant. How many images like this of a self-conscious figure pinioned to a receding background have been made since Rineke Dijkstra (or August Sander for that matter)? I'd argue few: this jug-eared, pigeon-toed boy and his crocs, the mugging ecce homo-like visage of a wrestler or some UFC fighter on his jersey- a caricature of the masculinity we're made to aspire to- the happily-lit, rundown road. This is the camera's capacity to do far more than merely describe.
